Hellfire Club: The Black Queen

This collection was inspired by one of the oddest members of the Marvel universe.  A psychic vampire who is 17,000 years old and is a sometimes member of the Hellfire Club.

Selene- The Black Queen.

Hellfire Club: The Black Queen

Got to say though, I love those shoes.  Because shoes!!!!

This dress may be the most clothing that Selene has seen in her many, many years.

The Hellfire Club-featured Villian- the Black Queen.

Selene dresses like a dominatrix, so of course, I went with leather.  It needs to be asked, but wouldn't you be cold in that outfit?  She often wore it outside, in NYC, in the winter!!!!    Yes, I know she is just a comic book character, but still.  Anyone who wears less clothes than Wonder Woman has to be a villain.  Superpower: staying warm in lingerie.

Where's Waldo

Where's Waldo

Where's Waldo by laurennic featuring a satchel bag

Just because Waldo wants to hide and have you seek, doesn't mean his sister does.  What woman wants to blend into the crowd?  We all want to stand out.  Red is one of those colors that makes you stand out in a crowd.

I know, Waldo isn't exactly nerdy...but it is a fantastic game for kids.  And truth be told, Waldo is kind of a nerd.  So I'm going with it.  :)

Brotherhood of Evil Mutants: Magneto

Today's collection is inspired by that great X-Men villan-Magneto!
Brotherhood of Evil Mutants: Magneto

In the comics Magneto's wardrobe is as bad as he is, but this look is pure good...ish.  I must confess that I am not the biggest fan of the color pink, but as soon as I saw this dress, well, I knew it would represent Erik Lehnsherr.  Depending on the colorist, Magneto's colors are either pink and purple or red and purple.

And I want those shoes.

Really, really want those shoes.

Star Trek Fashion

I must confess that I am a Star Trek fan.  I am not a pointy ear wearing, Klingon speaking fan, but I do love the show.  I love that Gene Roddenberry painted a hopeful vision for the future were all nations where united.  I also love that this almost Utopian view of the future still had conflicts which helped to show humanities shortfalls.  Science Fiction-the Genre that shows us how to be better.  Gotta love it.

So, today's collection is inspired by Star Trek.  I was playing around on Think Geek last night and stumbled across this t-shirt dress.  The dress is supposed to be for a Halloween costume/convention floor type occasion, but why does that have to be the only time you can wear it?

I don't think it does.  Throw a cute sweater over it, some leggings under it, some adorable boots and bam!  Outfit to go do stuff in.  I threw in a blue watch and a yellow bangle as a nod to the other uniform colors from the Trek verse...so that the person wearing the red dress doesn't get dead.

Don't be ashamed to show you inner Trekker.  Feel free to wear the dress all year long!

The Internet Belongs to Everyone!

There is currently a bill headed to our government that could seriously impede the internet, violate our first amendment rights, and send us on a path to a dictatorship.  I kid you not.

These bills are called SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act, and PIPA, the Protect IP Act.

Wikipedia's English site has gone dark today, Google has blacked out it's logo, Reddit has gone down, Wired has blacked out all of it's front page articles, Firefox is down, and one of my favorite sites, I Can Has Cheezeburger, has gone down.  The Bloggess has posted about it.  All this is to raise awareness of the damage these to bills can do.

Google Doodle for 1/18/12
Both bills have good intentions.  They are both meant to stop online piracy from foreign websites.  As the saying goes "the path to hell is paved with good intentions".  However, the wording in these bills mean that our government will be able to determine what websites it's citizens have access to.

Kind of like China's current system.

You know, the system of government that doesn't allow it's citizens to protest anything...ever.

Facebook, Twitter and Google have led the fight against these bills.  The response from those active in online communities has been so great that the bills are currently set up to be redone.  The Washington Post has a great article on what current members of congress are doing to correct the bills.

As a blogger, I believe that these bills could do more harm than good.  The verbiage in the bills leaves so much room for interpretation that it makes it dangerous for all citizens to express their 1st amendment rights online.

Websites like PinterestYou Tube, Facebook, Twitter, and Wikipedia could find themselves shut down.  All of these sites employee multitudes of people who would no longer have jobs.  Cause that would be great for the economy.

We need look no farther than Lybia and Egypt to see how beneficial the Internet can be.  The fight against injustice in these countries was aided by social media sites.  The Occupy Wall Street movement, which was a peaceful protest...for the most part, was largely supported by social media sites.

I have signed the petition against SOPA and PIPA to help protect my first amendment rights and to help keep George Orwell's 1984 from becoming a reality.  Will you sign?

Vintage Captain America

Here is today's collection.    I saw the dress on Polyvore and I knew who it would represent immediately!
Captain America!!!
Jack Kirby's Captain America
I could have gone for a more literal collection, with stars and stripes all over the place, but this dress just felt like something the Cap would have worn...had Steve Rodgers been a girl.  Plus, I love this dress.

Geek Chic

As a female genre fan, my geek fashion choices are severly limited.  Most female genre clothing is designed for guys and stuck on a baby doll tee.  And we are supposed to just accept this?

Ashely Eckstein didn't think so.  She started Her Universe.  It's a website for female genre fans to find genre clothing that was designed for them.  Ashley, who stars as Ashoka Tano on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, noticed a need for genre clothing and, well, started a mini empire.  She has created a place for female fans to talk openly, buy cool stuff, and help other fans.  You can read more about Ashley's awesome mission on her Blog.

It's the Her Universe Logo!

I was inspired by Ashley's mission and decided to take matters into my own hands...kind of.
I stumbled across this website called Polyvore as I was Pinning everything under creation.  It's this great site where you can go and create outfits.   I'm pretty sure that I am in love with a website.  I mean, where else can you go and make outfits without actually spending money?

That being said, I am going to be using Polyvore to create outfits that celebrate my inner geek.  Some of them will be obvious, like my first shot below, and some will be slightly more subtle.  This is going to be fun!

Today's selection is inspired by The Green Lantern!

I have a few posts that I am actively working on besides this one.  Of course, one is about Buffy, because I am me, and I love Buffy.  One is also about Firefly.  Why is one about Firefly, you ask?  Cause I am a Browncoat dang it!

Till next time!

Happy Nerd Year Everyone!

Yup.  I said Nerd Year.

Why am I calling it Nerd Year?  Because the movies are coming!!!  Are you ready for it?  Because I am going to give you a list of all the nerdtastic films that are being released in the next year...and that I am going to see.

And here they are, in no particular order:

The Amazing Spiderman
The Hunger Games
The Avengers
Prometheus
The Hobbit
Wrath of the Titans
Men in Black III
G.I. Joe: Retaliation
Snow White and the Huntsman
Mirror Mirror
Battleship
Chronicle
Jack the Giant Killer
The Dark Knight Rises
John Carter
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
Underworld: Awakening
The Divide
Haywire

Obviously, I am a glutton for punishment because a few of those movies look as cheesey as hell.   For example, Ghost Rider.  I know I am going to regret it, but I am still going to have to see it.  Same goes with Battleship, G. I. Joe, both Snow White films, Men in Black, Wraith of the Titans...you get where I am going with this.

Maybe I should tell you what I am most excited about.

I am thrilled that there is a new Peter Jackson film coming out.  Seeing The Hobbit will be amazing, I have no doubt.  I know King Kong had it's haters, but no one can deny that the Lord of the Rings trilogy changed cinema forever.  His use of motion capture technology (and Andy Serkis's peformace as Gollum) showed filmakers what special effects should be and put WETA digital on the map as the go to effects house for future films.

Ridley Scott goes back to the franchise that made both James Cameron and himself household names.  That's right, Mr. Scott is returning to the Alien universe with his newest film, Prometheus.  I think.  I'm not real sure.  In the trailer, there are no face huggers, no Queens, nothing to overtly suggest the movie is set in that world, but the hints are there, if you are a fan.

I don't know anyone who isn't excited to see Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises.  Now, I don't know about you, but I remember back when good ole Bruce got his back broken by Bane in the comic books and was replaced by the blood thirsty Azazel.  I also remember my dad buying both my brother and I a copy...and not letting us read it.  He didn't want us to damage the book.  Long story short, I have been waiting on pins and needles to see if Nolan actually puts Batman through that.  The fangirl in me is excited.

I already have a date for this next movie.  And when I say date I mean my father.  So it's not actually a date at all.  The Avengers are assembling!!!  Joss Whedon is directing this movie, and I couldn't be more thrilled about it.  Joss is one of those men who, when able to do his thing, as it where, he makes magic.  I mean come on, this is the man who brought us Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog!  And with the cast involved in this movie, I see no bad here.

What movies are you excited about in the coming year.  There will be a plethora of offerings for all types of movie goers, not just the Science Fiction genre.

I'm going to have my next post up soon. It will be about stuff, featuring more stuff, with a side of Buffy.
